Q:Hi, do I need to contact the insurance company before I go to visit a doctor? To I need to pre-certification anything? Or can I just go to the Dr's office with my insurance card?

A:
Generally speaking, you should get pre-certified before hospitalization, MRI's, CT scans, durable medical equipment, and extended care/nursing home facilities. You can find the rules for Pre-certification requirements in each policies Certificate Wording. It is always recommended to call your insurance company before you seek treatment, or as soon as reasonably possible, so they can inform you of the correct steps to take. You can find that number on the back of your insurance ID card. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:My wife will be visiting USA from India. She is an Indian citizen. If we buy visitor insurance from US-based company, what would be the claim settlement procedure, if needed? Do we need to submit any papers, as proof of any treatment received from the hospital, for reimbursement, or will the insurance company directly deal with the hospital, get any necessary documents from the hospital, and make direct payment to the hospital?

A:
It is up to the provider to decide if they are going to bill you or the insurance company directly. In the event that the insurance company directly bills you, yes, you would need to send all relevant documents to the insurance company. Either way, it is recommended you reach out to the policies claim department for further instruction because it is likely you still would have to file a claim. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I am 66 years old Male visiting USA on a J1 visa for 10 months as a Research scholar at University of Notre Dame South Bend Indiana. What would be best and competitive policy I should have. I am Indian and travel will begin from Mid August.

A:
Due to your age, you are limited on how many policies are available to you. However, Atlas America is a popular plan that would meet the minimum Department of State requirements for a J1 visa holder. For other plans that are available to you, you can run a quote in the Exchange Visitors section of the website.

Q:I am a 60-yr-old US citizen living in China. My 16-yr-old daughter and 14-yr-old son are both US citizens. We live in China for the most of time and spend summers and sometimes Christmas break in New York. My son and I have pre-existing conditions. From 2011 till end of June 2023, my family was covered under the Aetna International Health insurance worldwide coverage plan (individual) before it was announced discontinued. We now have health coverage in China. And we are looking for some kind of health coverage during our stay in US. What plan do you think may be suitable for our needs?

A:
As a US citizen visiting the US, they are restricted on the number of plans available to them, however, you may still be eligible to purchase Patriot America Plus or Visitors Protect. Patriot America Plus plus will offer coverage for the Acute onset of Pre-existing Conditions. Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions but it still cannot be known or expected treatment. It also has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relatinng to a pre-existing condition. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:Hello,I and my wife are immigrant visa holders who will be entering the US. We both have preexisting conditions and would likely be eligible for ACA coverage after we enter. But, we are looking for some coverage until we get the ACA coverage started. Could you pls let us know what policy would work well? We do not mind high deductible if it comes with high coverage. Thanks

A:
As immigrants coming to the US, you would be eligible to purchase Patriot America Plus or Visitors Protect before entering in the US. Patriot America Plus plus will offer coverage for the Acute onset of Pre-existing Conditions. Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions but it still cannot be known or expected treatment. It has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. With both of these plans you will no longer be eligible for coverage once you are able to have a domestic insurance policy. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
