Q:I had a question regarding buying H1B and H4 Visa. I am currently a resident for tax purposes for year 2020 and so will be my wife. I am eligible for insurance through my employer, but, are we eligible to buy insurance for year 2020 through Insubuy? My plan does not have to be ACA compliant.

A:
While your plan does not have to be ACA compliant, we still recommend you obtain the insurance coverage through your employer. Domestic plans cover preventative care, routine maintenance, and pre-existing conditions. The plan options we will have available are short term medical insurance plans. Short term plans will provide coverage for new illnesses and new injuries that manifest or occur after the effective date of the policy. They are designed to cover you until you are eligible for a domestic insurance.

Q:Hi! I have insurance Patriot America Plus for me and my wife. We are green card holders and we entered the US two months ago (it was our first enter in US). My wife is planning to take a job in the US with W2 contract (through corp2corp). The employer doesn't give any health insurance plans or health benefits. Our Patriot America Plus will end on 10/31. We would like to extend it. Do we eligible to extend it?

A:
You are only eligible for this plan if you are not eligible for domestic insurance. While the employer is not offering coverage, you are able to obtain it through the Health Care Exchange in your state because you are green card holders under the age of 65. You need to contact the Health Care Exchange and sign up for coverage for both of you. They will then give you an effective date the coverage will begin. You can only renew this policy until that start date. For now, you can renew the plan because even though you need to contact the Health Care Exchange now to obtain coverage, it would take them a minimum of 15 days for coverage to start, up to January 1, 2020. Once they let you know the start date, you will know if you need to cancel the Patriot plan, or renew it a little longer. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
