Group medical insurance provides medical coverage to groups of five or more persons traveling together outside their home country.
Group travel insurance may be comprised of various benefits, some of these standard benefits may include:
Group travel insurance provides emergency medical treatment, generally for new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the policy. Each member of the group is covered up to the stated policy maximum.
Learn MoreFor groups traveling to the United States, group travel insurance plans participate in a PPO network, which has many physicians and hospitals all across United States that participate in the insurance, bill the insurance company directly and charge only the network negotiated fees. That makes it a very convenient, cashless treatment.
Learn MoreSome group travel insurance plans include coverage for an acute onset of a pre-existing condition up to certain age and amount. It provides valuable coverage for a sudden and unexpected outbreak of pre-existing conditions that require immediate treatment within 24 hours.
Learn MoreUnder trip interruption coverage, group travel insurance can pay for additional expenses incurred for making travel arrange in case an insured member needs to cut their trip short due to a covered reason, such as death of a close family member or destruction of their home due to fire or flood.
Learn MoreIf you or any other member of your group were to become seriously sick or badly injured while traveling to a remote location, group travel insurance can arrange for emergency medical evacuation, which can transport the person in need of quick treatment to the nearest medical facility capable of providing adequate medical care. Once the member is stable enough to travel, it may also make payments to return to the home country.
Learn MoreIn the unfortunate event that any member of the group passes away while on the trip, group travel insurance would help pay for the return of mortal remains to the home country or for local cremation.
Learn MoreOne way to start a disastrous trip while traveling abroad for business or pleasure is if the airline loses your checked luggage. Group travel insurance typically includes a loss of checked luggage benefit that may help pay for the necessary items you would likely need after arriving in your destination country.
Learn MoreIf any group member were to pass away in an accident, AD&D coverage in group travel insurance would pay a lump sum amount to their beneficiary. In case of losing a limb or two (hand, leg or eye), it would make a partial lump sum payment to the group member. Some plans provide higher coverage for an accident while traveling in a common carrier such as airplane, train or bus.
Learn MoreYou should not have to worry about buying separate travel insurance for each member of your group.

Depending on what is most important for you to have covered, there may be a plan better tailored to your needs:
If you are an individual, family, or group of less than 5 persons visiting the U.S., you can purchase a visitors insurance plan. Many additional choices are not available on a group basis. An individual person either can enroll into the same plan or can choose a different insurance plan. Individual people can also choose a different policy maximum, deductible, and purchase for a different duration.
If a person, family, or group smaller than 5 persons is traveling outside the U.S. and outside their home country, they can purchase a travel medical insurance plan from a wide variety of options. Each person has the flexibility of choosing a different plan, policy maximum, deductible, and a different duration. If you are a group of less than 5 people that want flexibility, it is the best to purchase individual travel medical insurance.
If you are group of 5 or more J1 visa holders, you can purchase J1 visa group medical insurance that fully meets the J1 visa insurance requirements set by the U.S. Department of State. It provides the same coverage as the individual medical insurance, but it is cheaper. Each person can still get a separate confirmation of coverage letter and/or a separate waiver form signed by the insurance company.
This insurance is very helpful for employers when the majority of their employees reside outside the U.S. and they want long term group medical insurance plans. This coverage is customized to meet the needs of each employer; therefore, it is not instant. Once you send in the completed census, you will receive a proposal after, and then the group will go through underwriting, which could take a few days.
