Question:

Hello, I have my parents flying to the U.S. from India in the next few days. I have some questions about the insurance. 1. Is there any insurance that you can recommend which covers both pre-existing condition as well as COVID-19? If none available that covers both pre-existing and COVID-19, can I take two separate insurances, one that covers pre-existing and the other that covers COVID-19 so that both can be claimed respectively? Please recommend the choices. 2. If I take the insurance before their departure and if in case they got infected by COVID-19 during the flight, will it be covered? Thanks Manny

Answer:

Hello Manny,

Thank you for contacting us for your insurance needs. Please see the below for the answers to your questions.

1. All plans on the market will offer coverage for the new illnesses and injuries that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy, but there is no plan for visitors that will offer coverage for pre-existing conditions, preventative or routine care. There are some plans that offer coverage for the Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing condition that may serve as beneficial to you. You can find more information regarding the benefit here.

As far as coverage for COVID-19, there are very few plans for visitors on the market that offer such coverage. One that would be recommended that also includes the Acute Onset benefit would be the Safe Travel USA Comprehensive plan. You may also read more about visitor insurance with COVID-19 coverage here.

2. As stated above, the plans will allow for coverage for the new things that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. Due to the known incubation period of COVID-19, if they were to find out they had COVID during the flight to the United States it would be more than likely that they contracted it before the start date of the policy. In any case, it is determined by the medical professional, based on the attending physician notes and lab results as per the certificate wording of the policy.
