Question:

My father (72yrs) has wet macular degeneration in both his eyes and was taking injections for the same. He is currently off the regular injections except once in a while if his doctor feels the need based on monthly OCT scans. His current doctor has advised him to do regular OCT scans to check if any issues arise that may require further injections to prevent the condition from getting any worse. One eye is beyond repair and current scans are only for the other eye. I am trying to figure out how I can continue his OCT scans while he is with us in the USA. Could you please let me know what kind of insurance I need to purchase and what kind of coverage he would get specifically for monthly OCT scan(one eye) (how much would he need to pay out of pocket) in case he needs an injection in one eye (Accentrix / Lucentis) (how much would he need to pay out of pocket).

Answer:

As you know we provide insurance from many companies. None of the short term plan for an International visitor will cover routine maintenance or dr. visit for the existing conditions. We have one plan that covers acute onset of pre-existing conditions for above age 70yrs. Safe Travels USA Comprehensive will cover acute onset of pre-ex. to $35,000 ($15,000 cardiac) for ages 70-89.

in short, anything related to his existing conditions will be excluded and if you want to visit dr. for his current conditions you will be responsible 100%.
