Question:

I am a new postdoc at Columbia University. Currently, I am looking to find an appropriate health insurance which satisfies the University's insurance policy. I am so sorry to ask you about this, however I have quite limited information about health insurance system in this country, and know quite few about it, so I would be very happy to be advised before I make an decision. I found a issuance called Patriot Platinum America which is provided by International Medical Group. Do you think this insurance fully covers the University's policies/criteria? For example: +++ 1. Medical benefit of at least $100,000 per person per accident or illness 2. Deductible that does not exceed $500 per accident or illness 3. Coverage of pre-existing conditions after a reasonable waiting period 4. J patient cannot be required to pay more to exceed 25% medical costs 5. Minimum medical evacuation expenses in the amount of $50,000 6. Minimum repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 7.The insurance company must meet minimum industry rating requirements (an A. M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above). I am so sorry to ask you this, however I officially started my contract from April 1st, and the Human Resource Office at CUIMC needs to be confirmed as soon as possible. So I would be dry happy if you give me your thought about this. I look forward to hear from you.

Answer:

The Patriot Platinum America Plan does not meet the requirements listed. However, there is a plan called Patriot Exchange Program that will meet these requirements and is similar in coverage.
