Question:

I'll start a visiting fellowship at Stanford University, California by January, 20th. I need to make an insurance before my arrival and I have a couple of questions regarding that: 1. I need to fulfill the following requirements: - Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness. - Repatriation* of remains in the amount of $25,000. - Expenses associated with the medical evacuation* of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000. - A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. - If a particular activity is a part of your Exchange Visitor program, your insurance must cover injuries resulting from your participation in that activity. - The policy may establish a waiting period before it covers pre-existing conditions (health problems you had before you bought the insurance), as long as the waiting period is reasonable by current standards in the insurance industry. - The policy must be backed by the full faith and credit of your home country government or the company providing the insurance must meet minimum rating requirements established by DOS (an A. M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above). I'd like to choose the insurance plan with the lowest cost. As I've checked your website, Atlas Essential America seems to fit these standards. Yet, its deductible, which is $250, is offered per period, but I need to choose a deducible amount per accident or illness. How can I change this option while I ask for a quote? 2. My J1 visa expires at July, 20th, but I'm not sure whether I'll stay until this date. I'd like to buy an insurance that covers until July, 1st, and extend the insurance period if I need. Would that create a problem during my entry to the USA? 3. My husband is a J2 holder, but he'll arrive 2 months later that I will. Do we have to buy our insurances at once, or, can he buy his insurance later?

Answer:

Based on the information provided below we would recommend the ExchangeGuard plan. Please use the link provided below to view the plan details an purchase. We have also submitted answers to the questions you had below in red. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Answer: Unfortunately, there is no way to change the frequency in when the deductible is met in order to meet the requirements. We would suggest a comparable plan such as the ExchangeGuard Essential as this plan has deductible options which are per incident.

2. My J1 visa expires at July, 20th, but I'm not sure whether I'll stay until this date. I'd like to buy an insurance that covers until July, 1st, and extend the insurance period if I need. Would that create a problem during my entry to the USA?

Answer: This information we will not be able to confirm as we only handle the insurance. The ExchangeGuard plan is renewable, so you may extend this plan as needed.

3. My husband is a J2 holder, but he'll arrive 2 months later that I will. Do we have to buy our insurances at once, or, can he buy his insurance later?

Answer: In this situation you will want to process a separate application for him.
