The South American nation of Colombia has quietly removed the majority of its pandemic-era travel restrictions. As of this article’s writing, international visitors are no longer required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to travel to the country. In addition, the mandatory requirement for travel insurance providing coverage for COVID-19 has ended as well. This information has been confirmed by several Colombian consulate websites.

This marks the first time in over three years that travelers are able to visit Colombia with no additional health restrictions. They are no longer required to disclose if they are vaccinated for coronavirus, and there are no COVID-19 testing mandates either prior to the flight or after landing in Colombia.

However, it should be noted that one COVID-19 requirement remains in effect. Travelers must still apply for a travel permit at the CheckMig website at least 72 hours prior to their trip.

So, if travel restrictions have been preventing you from experiencing the Colombian Amazon or the gorgeous Caño Cristales, wait no longer. Colombia is open for business to all travelers.

Colombia Travel Insurance Is Still Recommended

And it’s not just us saying this. The Colombian consulate still recommends you have proper insurance coverage, and there’s good reason why.

Maybe you aren’t as concerned about COVID-19 these days. OK, but that’s just one of any number of health issues you could have during your trip to Colombia. You could break a bone, contract a respiratory infection, have an allergic reaction, the list goes on. If you need medical treatment in a foreign country, how do you intend to pay for it? Your domestic health insurance probably isn’t going to be accepted, so hopefully you have enough in your bank account to cover the bill. Or, you could be a prepared traveler and get travel medical insurance. This way, you’ll have the coverage you need for necessary care.

If you were to have to cancel your trip to Colombia, it could be expensive. The money you’ve already spent on flights and hotels usually isn’t refundable, leaving you paying for a trip while you stay at home. Don’t let this happen to you. Shop trip cancellation insurance today so you’re covered in case of the unexpected.
