Question:

Atlas America - Side trip insurance I hope you are doing well. You had helped me tremendously last year in getting my father’s claim resolved through HCCMIS (Atlas America Plan) and I am forever grateful for that. The e-mail chain below might refresh your recollection. My parents are visiting me once again this summer for about 3 months, and as usual I am in the process of purchasing a comprehensive plan ($1 million) through the Insubuy website. My parents are 67 and 65 I had a question: Atlas America Plan (HCCMIS) as well as Liaison Continent A (Seven Corners) plan both seem to have similar coverage. Liaison seems to participate in Multiplan PPO and Atlas America appears to participate in First Health Coventry as well as Multiplan PPOs(looking at my father’s ID from last year). These two plans also appear to cover around $100K for cute onset of preexisting conditions for people less than 70 years of age. The premiums are pretty much the same – around $920 or so for 3 months. Which one would you recommend? Atlas is obviously a known quantity to me from last year and they did settle the claims (with your help) and we did not have to pay anything other than the $250 deductible. Should I just stick to Atlas America? Let me know what you think. Thanks a lot for your time. Thanks, P.S. They will also be traveling to Canada with us for a week on a side-trip.

Answer:

Thank you for contacting me again. I definitely remember you very well. That’s no problem. It will cover anywhere outside the home country. At $1 million policy maximum, Liaison Continent covers acute onset of pre-existing conditions up to $150,000 for the persons below the age of 70 years while Atlas still covers at $100,000. Therefore, it would be beneficial to go for Liaison Continent in this case. Atlas America now participates in First Health Coventry and nothing else. You can purchase Liaison Continent online at /safe-travels-usa-comprehensive-insurance/ Please let me know if you have any other questions.

One other question. Based on my past experience, Atlas America appears to cover 100% (after deductible) when within the PPO network and billed directly. Liaison Continent A appears to be always 80/20, is that right? Is the Multiplan PPO network larger than First Health/Coventry? Thanks,

1. That is correct. 2. There is nothing like that. While the number of results may vary based on a specific criteria entered, it would work out to be either way. Therefore, I would not make any decisions based on that.
