Question:

Looking for coverage for an american living abroad over 10 years last state of residence is California. Planning to visit USA in October looking for either travel/ or long term insurance with pre existing condition. The traveler is a stroke survivor with hypertension, age 38 travel dates from Oct 17 to 27 or maybe just one week from Hong Kong to NYC. We are mainly worried about medical bills, in case, you know, knock on wood, shall anything happens.

Answer:

The insurance plans available for a short visit are going to cover new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. At most, there is a plan that will cover in the event of an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. This will not include general routine doctor's visits or immunizations, nor any medications related.

Unfortunately, there is not going to be a plan that will cover the pre-existing conditions unless it is a domestic insurance plan. You can look into domestic insurance after his arrival but they would not be valid during the needed duration of his visit of 10/17-10/27.

Domestic insurance plans typically start the first of the following month after arrival or the month after.
