Question:

Insurance advise for parents ... My dad is 70 and mom 60. Mom has diabetes, while dad is healthy and not on any medications. What insurance should I go for? I looked at insubuy webpage and it suggests buying them seperately for more options. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to buy them separately? Dad doesn't have any diabetes/BP etc. But still, I am paranoid about some insurance company declaring a condition as preexisting. Are there any that covers pre-existing conditions for 70+ patients? Is it better to buy with no preexisting for dad and with preexisting for mom? Thanks!

Answer:

Realistically, there are really no plans that cover pre-existing conditions in any form for 70+. There are some plans that provide little coverage: Visitors Care: /visitors-care-insurance/ If additional option is purchased, if the person is admitted into the hospital due to heart attack or stroke that is due to pre-existing conditions, it will pay max $2,500. Safe Travels USA: /safe-travels-usa-insurance/ $1,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions. Liaison Majestic: /atlasamerica-insurance/ If the person is admitted into the hospital due to heart attack or stroke that is due to pre-existing conditions, it will pay $200/night, max $3,000. Therefore, you can see that there is really no proper coverage for 70+ for anything related to pre-existing conditions. We generally advise everyone to buy separate policies due to many advantages in terms of flexibility of choice of plans, renewability, refund etc. The price is per person, deductible is person, policy max is per person anyway. Some plans mandate you to do separate policies anyway and in that case, there is no choice. I would recommend that you purchase Atlas America Insurance for your mother at /atlasamerica-insurance/ If you would like to purchase $50,000 for your father, you can buy the same Atlas America Insurance for your father too. For $100,000, consider Patriot Platinum America insurance at /patriot-america-platinum-insurance/ I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

My father is actually 69 and will be turning 70 when he is in US. Is it the age at coverage that matters? Also, is ImmigrantSecure a good plan for 100k for both of them? I think having PPO network will get me negotiated charges. What is your opinion?

When the person is 69 years of age, he will get coverage according to the age 69 years. When he turns 70, his coverage will be according to the age 70. Immigrant Secure is a fixed coverage plan. In other words, it is a scheduled benefit plan and has sub-limits for each and every medical benefit. Please read about it at /visitors-insurance/ We always recommend everyone to buy only the comprehensive coverage plans. Even with PPO network's network negotiated fees, you will have to pay a large balance out of your pocket.

If he is 69 years, and I buy initially for one month and renew later on, will the rate go up once he crosses 70?

In general, yes, that would be the case. However, it depends upon the plan you purchase. Therefore, if you can tell me specifically which plans you are referring to, I can provide more accurate information.

Thanks for shearing your nice and helpful post and good information for us.It may be helpful for me.
