New Immigrant Insurance

Question:

Medical insurance for new immigrants waiting for Medicare eligibility I hope you still remember me since two years have passed in between. If you remember, you had given me the first Health insurance policy from IMG, after I came to US in Nov, 2006. In 2007 July I got an employment thru my employer I was covered thru Blue Cross Blue Shield for two years up to July, 2008. Now, I am out of job because of expiry of my work contract. Therefore, presently myself and my wife, both are out of coverage. Since we came to US as migrants, we have been covered by Health insurance. besides, we are keeping good health and have hardly made use of the facility that was available. Can you now suggest me a new policy to provide minimum health coverage till I can get a new job with insurance coverage. I am now 73 and my wife 65 but we are not yet covered by Medicare as we are still Green Card holders. Hence, the need. I will be thankful if you can guide or help me in this matter. Your early reply is requested. Thank you.

Answer:

I recommend that you purchase a bridge plan, available at /new-immigrant-insurance/

I am sorry I am little late in my reply as I had to study the details of the policy. At the outset I feel it will meet my immediate needs. But, I would like to know the following additional information before applying. 1: Can I take only Quarterly policy now and renew at the quarter end if required. 2: Suppose I get a new job with insurance coverage or may be I go out of US for a quarter, then I may not need this coverage and I may not renew the policy. 3: In such a case, after the break, is it possible to reapply for getting a new policy? My resident status will still continue 4: Is the premium as per the data in the table given at the end. 5: As per the document, only reimbursement is made. Does it mean that I have to pay in advance. It may not be possible in all cases. For instance in case of Hospitalization what happens? 6: How do I apply. Is it possible to apply on line and pay by credit-card or I have to send a physically filled up application. On receipt of your reply I will take action. Kindly advise.

1. Please note that bridge plan is meant if you continue to keep the policy for a long time. It is not meant as a short term policy as it requires a lot of effort on both sides to get this policy. Having said that you can pay quarterly. 2. Its ok if you don't renew. 3. You can reapply. Everything will be all over again. 4. Yes. 5. That primarily means that there is no PPO network. However, most hospitals are still willing to bill the insurance company directly as they don't expect you to carry a lots of cash and they want to get paid after all. 6. It is not available online. You have to download the application from /bridge-plan-insurance/ and send it to us.
