Turkey Travel Insurance

Turkey Travel Insurance is mandatory for all visitors to Turkey who are residents of outside nations. Visitors must show proof of insurance coverage to be granted access to Turkey.

Some people consider Turkey (legally known as Turkiye as of December, 2021) a part of Asia, while others consider it a part of Europe. Some people just say Turkey is in the Middle East. Either way, the city of Istanbul is spread across two continents: Asia and Europe. In fact, it is the only city in the world that is on two continents.

Turkey borders the Black Sea to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also called Blue Mosque, is located in Istanbul city. Another similar place is Aya Sofya. The mighty ruin of Ephesus is a city of colossal monuments and marble-columned roads. Topkapi Palace is fantastic and displays the opulent world of the sultans.

Pamukkale is Turkey's most famous natural wonder, with enormous terraces of mineral that cascade down the slope.

Other places worth seeing are the Sumela Monastery, Mount Nemrut, Ani and Aspendos which is a Roman theater. Many people also stop by in Turkey while cruising in the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkey has thousands of miles of coastline and hundreds of beaches. Millions of tourists visit every year. Turkey offers many attractions for a wide of variety of interests.

Turkey has a Grand Bazaar that has thousands of shops selling all kinds of things.

Credit card and debit cards are widely accepted in many places. There are also many ATMs that would dispense their local currency, the Turkish Lira. When you visit a restaurant, make sure to tip them around 10 to 15 percent.

U.S.-based domestic health insurance may not provide sufficient coverage abroad, if any at all. The NHS, European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and social insurance of Canada or Australia also will not provide the coverage in Turkey.

Therefore, purchasing Turkey travel insurance that includes emergency medical coverage as well as the emergency medical evacuation is necessary.

If you are planning to participate in any hazardous sports activities such as skiing, diving, white water rafting or sea kayaking, make sure to purchase travel insurance that specifically covers such activities.

Turkey recently had several incidents of bombing, and if you believe that you may need to cancel your trip to Turkey due to such incidents, make sure to purchase trip-cancellation insurance.

Be aware that all foreigners under the age of 65 traveling to Turkey on long-stay visas are required to have comprehensive travel insurance. At a minimum, they must have coverage for inpatient medical treatment.

Additionally, all expatriates under the age of 65 must have expatriate health insurance that provides inpatient and outpatient coverage. However, retired expatriates over 65 years old are exempt from this requirement.
