The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)—which was developed by the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) created by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and JCB—is an extensive set of technical and operational standards that a company needs to follow to ensure that all companies that process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.
There are many stringent requirements, including but not limited to:
PCI DSS has six major objectives, 12 key requirements, 78 base requirements, and over 400 test procedures. Click here for more information.
When a business is PCI-compliant, it means that that the business reviews and follows the guidelines set forth by the credit card companies to help ensure your credit card information is protected and your personal information is secure.
Established in 1885 as the Wisconsin State Normal School, this university became University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) only in 1988. UW-Milwaukee is the largest in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It is also one of the two-year public universities which offers doctoral degrees.
In 2018, a reorganization of the UW Colleges established UW-Milwaukee in Washington County as a part of the UW System. It's the second-largest university in the University of Wisconsin System.
At UWM, you get the best of both worlds. On one hand, you get to enjoy being a part of a large university chain’s social events. On the other hand, you also enjoy the benefits of a close-knit college community at UW-Milwaukee campus.
It has 14 schools and colleges, including the graduate School of Freshwater Science. UW-Milwaukee is the sole university in the U.S. providing graduate students a degree in freshwater science.
This university has 16 colleges and schools with 70 academic centers, including institutes and labs.
UW-Milwaukee offers almost 200 degree programs as a whole. Included in the options are 94 bachelor's, 64 masters, and 33 doctorate degrees.
This university is well-reputed for its high academic research activity.
Here is an interesting fact. The university's library, Golda Meir Library, is home to the American Geographical Society Library (AGSL). It contains over a million copies of digital and print spatial data and all tools essential for geographers.
As a part of this university, you will have unlimited access to its resources, especially if you are joining for research. The UWM Research Foundation supports and commercializes its research and innovations.
Milwaukee itself is not the safest city, but Washington County has one of the lowest rates of crime in Milwaukee, ranking lower than the U.S. average – this goes for both violent crimes and property crimes.
The crime rates for the whole of Milwaukee as of 2020 were higher than the national averages. It ranks around 70 percent higher than the national average for crime – violent crimes are very high here. 1 in every 23 people fall victim to some form of crime. There is hope, as the city reports a drop in its crime rate by 19 percent annually. If you practice basic common sense and safety precautions, you shouldn't be at any significant risk of violent crime.
The presence of lead in the drinking water supply is a problem in Milwaukee. There was a hiccup in 2018 with mismanagement of city funds, but things are slowly looking up.
Washington County is susceptible to tornadoes, floods, severe storms, and other extreme weather fluctuations. Fortunately, the city is well-prepared for the dangers posed by weather disturbances. Being new to the area and possibly the weather conditions though, you should heed all warnings and be extra cautious.
Health insurance may not prevent sickness or injuries from accidents, but it will cover your medical treatment by handling the financial aspect of the treatment at your hour of need.
All educational institutions under the University of Wisconsin System require their students and exchange visitors to have satisfactory healthcare insurance at the time of enrollment. UWM is no exception to the rule.
UWM requires all its international students and exchange visitors to have suitable health insurance coverage. For any country that has an expensive healthcare system, like the U.S., it is highly advisable to have a good health insurance plan in place.
J visa exchange visitors also must meet the minimum insurance requirements set by the U.S. State Department (DOS).
UWM is not liable to pay any medical fees in case you have a health emergency. How would you cover the costs for a trip to the emergency room or other treatment without insurance?
The necessary medical treatment at the emergency room can quickly go into the ten-thousand-dollar range, without the right insurance coverage, you’ll be paying for that yourself.
It is never a good plan to have insufficient insurance coverage, and it’s a worse plan to have no coverage at all. That is why your insurance plan must meet the insurance requirements set by the university and/or by the DOS.
You can begin your search for suitable international student and exchange visitor health insurance plans on this page. Here, you will find many health insurance plans which are available at a reasonable prices.
