Health Risks for Prince William Sound College International Students

Valdez is in southeast Alaska, on Prince William Sound. This city is in a region of Alaska that receives the highest annual snowfall.

Valdez is one of the safer cities in Alaska. The crime rates in Valdez are lower than average for Alaska and the rest of the U.S., but it is still something which you should always be concerned and do your best to avoid. As safe as Valdez sounds, Alaska is the most dangerous state for a number of reasons.

Keep in mind that Alaska has been known as the last frontier for many years. Being lost in the wilderness is not something reasonable people want to chance. It’s quite possible to become lost if you wander out too far. If you’re lucky, you'd only suffer from frostbite and hypothermia (because you’re cold and wet) before being rescued. The freezing temperatures often make self-rescue impossible within seconds. If you’re not rescued, you could die within a short distance from Valdez.

While Alaska is beautiful, it’s also wild – that includes wildlife. There is a chance of animals like bears or moose wandering into areas of human habitation and attacking people who are caught by surprise.

If you’re going to Valdez, you’ll need to keep yourself safe from all of the above and also consider how you would cover the cost of medical expenses related to injuries or sicknesses that could befall you.

Cover Your Risks with Health Insurance for Prince William Sound College

International exchange visitors on a J1 visa and their dependents on a J2 visa must have an insurance plan that meets the J Visa Insurance Requirements set by the U.S. State Department.

Minor injuries or sicknesses will burn a hole through the funds of any college student, scholar, or professor on a budget. Having the right health insurance plan helps mitigate a substantial part of the cost, so that you may only pay the reasonable out-of-pocket costs.

How to find the best exchange visitor health insurance for Prince William Sound College?

Comparing and choosing the best exchange visitor health insurance for PWSC can be a daunting task, but there are a few steps you can take to make it easier and we can help.

Start by comparing plans below. We know that premium (price you pay) is important, but you should consider the amount of health coverage you could require. Every individual has different health conditions and may require a different plan based on those conditions.

  • First priority should be given to the benefits a plan offers; there are many plans to consider and while they’re similar, they’re not the same. Some plans may offer coverage for something you want and need.
  • After you’ve considered the benefits important to you, then consider the out-of-pocket expenses (deductible and co-insurance) that you would have to pay as per the terms of the insurance plan.
  • The last thing you should consider is the premium.

Finally, do not hesitate to seek professional help from us if you need it. We have many years of experience and are very knowledgeable about insurance products designed for international exchange visitors and students. We can help you get the best insurance plan for you while you’re at PWSC.
