Northwest Nazarene University International Student Insurance

General Information

Eugene Emerson laid the foundations of this university way back in 1913. What began as an elementary school received accreditation as a four-year college in 1937. Today NNU is a fully-accredited, co-educational, comprehensive Christian university of the arts, humanities, and sciences. NNU is among the eight U.S. liberal arts colleges affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene.

Today, the university offers more than 80 areas of study. Over 2,000 students, including international ones, are engaged in rigorous academic pursuits in its 90-acre campus in Nampa, Idaho. NNU also has a substantial online student community, numbering more than 6,000. The university promotes learning in a cross-cultural atmosphere and aims to provide holistic learning for their students.

Northwest Nazarene University Academic and Research Opportunities

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) has accredited NNU since 1930. That makes it the first Nazarene school to receive this accreditation.

Through its two colleges – the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Adult and Graduate Studies – Northwest Nazarene University provides over 60 baccalaureate degree programs, 11 master’s degree programs, and a Ph. D. program in Educational Leadership. Some of the programs available to students here are:

  • Arts & Humanities
  • Behavioral Sciences
  • Business
  • Education
  • Natural & Applied Sciences
  • Nursing
  • Theology & Christian Ministries

Northwest Nazarene University offers tuition support to students of select professional development programs, like accounting, business administration, liberal studies, among others. This provides much-needed additional support to the students.

The university also has a financial aid facility for students in need of help. Applicants need to submit their application by May so that the formalities are over by the fall semester.

Health Risks for Northwest Nazarene University International Students

Idaho has lower crime rates (2.3 per 1,000 people) than most states of the U.S. (3.7 per 1,000 people is the U.S. average). Some of its cities, including Nampa, boast of minimal crimes on a daily basis. Violent crimes are also minimal. However, petty theft and other forms of property crime are areas of concern.

International students should exercise caution until they’re familiar with the area, and they should avoid unfamiliar locations after sundown to avoid the chance of any unwanted situations.

While Idaho is a relatively safe place to live while you study, there is still concern of natural disasters that could occur, like wildfires or floods. Winters can be cold, too, so you will need to pack accordingly or plan to purchase appropriate attire when you get there. As always, you’ll need to be prepared for the eventual sicknesses or injuries that could occur.
