Travelers with or considering International Medical Group (IMG) travel insurance for Israel may have questions about coverage. In general, IMG plans continue to provide benefits for eligible events unrelated to the ongoing conflict, subject to each plan’s terms. IMG considers the conflict a known event; its insurance plans exclude losses directly resulting from it. Coverage differs among trip protection, travel medical, and long-term insurance plans.

Why IMG plans exclude losses caused by the ongoing conflict in Israel

IMG trip protection plans provide cancellation and interruption benefits only for unforeseen reasons listed in the insurance certificate. Unforeseen means travelers did not know about, anticipate, or reasonably expect an event when purchasing insurance. IMG considers the ongoing conflict in Israel a known event and excludes trip cancellations or interruptions directly caused by it.

IMG plans have a war exclusion, meaning IMG does not cover losses caused by war, even without a formal declaration. The exclusion extends to invasion, civil war, and uprisings.

What IMG plans still cover

Israel travel insurance under IMG continues to provide the same benefits for eligible events not caused by the ongoing conflict. A planned trip to Israel canceled due to a covered illness. A doctor visit for the flu while in Israel. An injury with no connection to the hostilities. IMG plans continue to cover cancellation costs and medical expenses under their standard terms, conditions, and exclusions.

What IMG plans do not cover

IMG’s travel insurance war exclusion applies to losses directly caused by the ongoing conflict in Israel. A planned trip canceled because of war-related events. An injury caused by the fighting while in Israel. IMG excludes the resulting cancellation costs and medical expenses under the applicable plan’s terms.

How IMG coverage differs by plan type

IMG plans cover different travel and medical needs. Each plan has specific benefits, limits, and conditions for cancellations, terrorism, and evacuation.

Trip protection plans

IMG’s trip protection plans reimburse eligible cancellation and interruption costs for listed unforeseen reasons. A sickness or injury unrelated to the ongoing conflict may still qualify. Certain events involving terrorism, government advisories, and travel restrictions have separate conditions.

IMG Plan Trip Cancellation/Interruption Terrorism Political/Security Evacuation
Travel LX Listed unforeseen reasons; new Level 4 advisory, evacuation order, travel ban for an itinerary city, or 6+ hour airport civil disorder/riot Qualifying Terrorist Incident $50,000 maximum
Travel SE Listed unforeseen reasons; new Level 4 advisory, evacuation order, travel ban for an itinerary city, or 6+ hour airport civil disorder/riot Qualifying Terrorist Incident Not included
Travel Choice Listed unforeseen reasons; new Level 4 advisory Qualifying Terrorist Incident $100,000 maximum

How travel advisory timing affects IMG coverage

For Israel travel advisory insurance, timing matters. A Level 3 advisory, meaning Reconsider Travel, or a Level 4 advisory, meaning Do Not Travel, can affect certain IMG benefits. As of the posting date, October 21, 2026, Israel is at Level 3, with specified areas at Level 4. Advisory status alone does not determine coverage.

For plans with terrorism coverage, benefits do not apply if a qualifying State Department advisory or CDC Level 3 or higher notice was in effect on or within six months before arrival. Coverage can also be excluded if an advisory takes effect after arrival and the traveler unreasonably remains.

Political evacuation requires an order directing all non-emergency U.S. government personnel to leave due to political unrest after arrival. The traveler must contact IMG within 10 days. A qualifying advisory in effect on or within six months before arrival can exclude the benefit.

Trip protection plans use purchase or effective dates. Listed covered reasons must meet the timing requirements in the applicable certificate. If included, political or security evacuation does not apply when the qualifying event precedes arrival.
