I am a US citizen living in Spain for 2 years but will be traveling back and forth to US every few months for a few weeks at a time. It is these visits where I want to have health insurance coverage. Do I have to enroll by mid December or can I enroll anytime. Also if I get pregnant in Spain and comeback to the US can I have my baby there under the plan and be covered
You are welcome to enroll in these insurance plans at anytime and choose the number of days you would like the plan. There are a only a few plans that are available to US citizens visiting the US; we typically recommend Patriot America Plus. You are also welcome to run a quote in the Visitors to U.S.A. section of the website to compare the plans available to you.
Unfortunately there are no visitors plans that will cover for maternity or delivery related expenses. However, if you are living outside the US for longer than 6 months you can always take a look at Expatriate Plans. When running a quote, be sure to select "yes" for Maternity and "worldwide" for Coverage Area.
While these plans are much more expensive they are the only plans that would cover maternity expenses after a 10 or 12 month waiting period depending on the plan. Another option, depending on the price, would be to enroll in a domestic insurance plan and continue to pay the premium while you are abroad so that you have a plan that will cover those expenses here in the states.
