Question:

U.S. citizen living abroad needing ins in U.S. while visiting on vacation Hi! My family and I will be travelling to New York this summer and are looking for health insurance for our stay. I am a US citizen, but I do not have health insurance in the US because I live in Taiwan most of the year. My son and daughter are dual citizens-Taiwan and US. My wife is a Taiwanese citizen. Your website seems to indicate that I would not be eligible for visitors health insurance because I am a US citizen. Please advise. Best,

Answer:

Thank you for your choosing Insubuy for your insurance needs. As U.S. citizens there are a couple of plans that could cover you and your children while visiting. Anytime someone has dual citizenship and one of these is U.S. citizenship, they are considered a U.S. citizen when coming to the U.S.. The Liaison Continent plans or Safe Travels plans would be options for U.S. citizens visiting. Your wife would be eligible for any visitors plan on the market as she is a Taiwanese citizen. If you need any assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Hi! If I purchase your health insurance for my trip, am I automatically exempted from Obamacare?

If you are just visiting and then returning to your home country (Taiwan), then PPACA or "Obamacare", would not apply to you. The ACA compliant plans only pertain to U.S. citizens and permanent residents residing in the U.S. These plans are not ACA compliant. You can contact healthcare.gov to confirm this as well.
