Question:

I am interested in buying this plan for my parents who will be travelling to US on April 25th. Before that , I have couple questions on the plan deductible. I am planning go for zero deductible for 25K coverage. My Premium comes up to 476$ for two people. My question is, On first and subsequent visits to doctor what I will be paying for zero deductible plan. Also I want to know for Prescription drugs, Xrays,Emergency,Mri scans what I will be paying for zero deductible. I have seen the broucher, still need clarification.

Answer:

The Safe Travels for Visitors to USA plan is a limited benefits or Fixed coverage plan.  This type of plan pays based on a schedule of benefits.

I have attached the link below for the schedule of benefits for a $25,000 policy maximum for the Safe Travels for Visitors to USA plan for you to review. All of the amounts you see listed in this schedule of benefits, will be the amounts that the plan will pay towards any covered / eligible expenses. Covered expenses would be any costs related to new illnesses or injuries that manifest or occur after the effective date of the policy.  Plans for visitors do not cover preventative care, routine maintenance, or pre-existing conditions, with the exception of some plans offering the Acute Onset benefit for certain acute onsets of pre-existing conditions.

I have given a couple of examples of how the plan will pay for you to reference:

The plan will allow up to $55.00 towards a Dr. Visit.  So if the you have  a $0 deductible and the Dr. charges $175.00 for an office visit for example if someone has  a new illness, the plan will pay $55.00, and you would be responsible for the remaining balance of $120.00.

If someone were to slip and fall causing an injury and go to the Emergency room,  the plan will allow up to $350.00 for an ER visit.

If the total bill were $5,000, and you have a $0 deductible, the plan would pay $350.00 towards the eligible expenses and you would pay the remaining $4,650.00.

If you are interested in more coverage for eligible expenses, you can look over the comprehensive plans which pay a percentage of covered expenses instead of fixed amounts.  However, the lowest policy maximum offered on a comprehensive plan would be $50,000.
