Question:

insured turns 70 during visit We need to get a medical insurance for a woman traveling to US for a personal visit. We were considering getting her Atlas America plan. She will stay in US for a couple of months. However, she will be turning 70 years at about one half of her stay. Would you recommend buying one policy that covers days before she turns 70 and the other one (more expensive) for the days after she turns 70?

Answer:

Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. You can purchase Atlas America plan for her now and you will pay the premium as of age 69 yrs. By chance if you need to renew her insurance once she turns 70 you will pay the premium as age 70 but benefits remains same as age 69yrs. Atlas America brochure, instant purchase and other useful information, /atlasamerica-insurance/ You can find more plans at www.insubuy.com Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.

Thanks for your quick response. Let me just check whether I got this right. Do we first purchase a plan only for the days before she turns 70, and then (say, a day before she turns 70) we renew the plan by purchasing for the remaining days using the more expensive rate? Would she in that case keep the same benefits throughout her visit, i.e. as she was younger than 70?

You can purchase for the duration she is planning to stay here and pay the premium for age 69. For e.g. her date of birth is 03/25/1946 so she will turn to 70 on mar 25th. If she is coming to USA on Feb 25th and planning to stay here until 05/25/2016. So you can purchase insurance from 02/25-05/25 and pay premium for age 69. For some reason if she extend her trip beyond 05/25. You can renew the same policy with higher premium as per age 70 and as long as you renew the policy before 05/25 her benefits remains same as age 69 yrs. You can have same benefits max. up to 364 days. I hope this clarifies your doubt.
