Question:

Russian family coming to USA: medical insurance needed I`m from Moscow, Russia. This summer I`m planning to travel to the USA (from the 06/23 till 07/22). I`ll also take my two children with me â€" a daughter who is 15 y.o. and a son â€" 14 y.o. In case of this I want to buy a travel (medical) insurance. But firstly I`d like to ask you a row of questions beginning with: Which kind of insurance for the whole family could you recommend? Unfortunately, my son (14 y.o.) suffers from the I Type Diabetes. Does this disease need special additions or our insurance will include it treatment in emergency? Should I mention his disease in the insurance or not? Is the possible accident of my son`s hypoglycemic coma or ketoacidosis (urgent conditions of diabetes) requiring hospital care the “insurance caseâ€? What`s the maximum amount of insurance coverage connected with the diabetes coma? And which insurance company can provide us the biggest insurance coverage exactly for this case? Where should we firstly call in the emergency case: to your insurance company or use the number of local ambulance (Is it 911?) How should we act in case of his coma? Write our probable actions step by step, please. May you send us all the insurance rules where we`ll be able to find needed descriptions and information about insurance coverage of such case as diabetic coma? When we called to your phone we were told that the maximum insurance coverage of healing diabetic coma at the hospital can be no more than $45000. What`s the highest possible price of the insurance coverage for this case in your company? And from what minimal amount of my medical insurance will it work? $50000? $100000? $500000? Does the amount of money cover all the probable accidents (“insurance casesâ€), which may happen during the insurance period? Or every possible case is covered with $45000 each? I look forward to hearing from you.

Answer:

We would recommend either Atlas America or Patriot America Plus. Unfortunately, there is no insurance on the market that will cover his pre-existing condition. The plans will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date of the policy. The two plans I mentioned do include coverage for the acute onset of pre-existing condition but coverage would be determined at the time of the claim by the claims department based on the doctors report. Please see more information about acute onset here /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ Also, more information on pre-existing conditions can be found here /visitor-medical-insurance-pre-existing-conditions/ There is nowhere on the application to provide information about pre-existing conditions since these plans are not underwritten and they offer no coverage for pre-existing. It’s not possible to know in advance if either of these situations would be covered or not. It would be determined by the claims department at the time of the claim if it qualifies for the Acute onset benefit. The plans mentioned above will cover the acute onset up to the chosen policy max if this situation qualifies. The Atlas plan will offer a million dollar policy max while the Patriot America Plus will offer up to $500k. It would not be exactly for this case since coverage for this situation wouldn’t be guaranteed. In the event of an emergency you would contact emergency personnel. Yes, 911 is the emergency response number. You would contact emergency personnel in the event of an emergency and provide them with the number to your insurance or provide them with the insurance card. Information on the Atlas America plan can be found here /atlasamerica-insurance/ and information on the Patriot America Plus can be found here /patriot-america-plus-insurance/ since the plans do not provide coverage for pre-existing conditions then there would not be a description of coverage for the diabetic coma. There is no maximum benefit for healing a diabetic coma so this information is not applicable. The quotes can be found from the links above or by entering the required information on our website www.insubuy.com and you will see the different plans we offer. The policy max option is your choice. The plans will cover any new illness or injury up to the chosen policy max.

Thank you for your quick answers. Studied links. New issues have emerged. 1) In plan "Inbound USA", "Inbound Guest" in "Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Condition Coverage" I found the following: "...Examples are as follows:... ... Diabetes - 04/01/2013 - (determined to be an acute onset of a pre-existing condition) $25000 is available for the acute onset benefit, payable to the scheduled amounts." /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ Is it possible to think that this means that the acute onset of diabetes will be paid in this insurance? 2) Can I ask you to ask this question to the Inbond insurance company? 3) Perhaps the more expensive insurance policy (PATRIOT PLATINUM AMERICA as an example) may be more likely to cover such risks as Diabetes? 4) Whatever insurance you have chosen in my case. To your taste? Thank you. I am waiting for answers.

The FAQ that you included is not saying that the diabetes is a covered condition. Instead it is just listing examples of scenarios. The Inbound plans will process the claims in a similar manner as the other plans that offer the Acute Onset benefit. The main difference will be that the Inbound plans will only pay fixed amounts (if determined to be a covered illness or injury) and you will be responsible for the majority of the cost. A link explaining the different types of plans /visitors-insurance/ No insurance plans will say that you will have coverage for a particular condition. The decision is only made once a claim has occurred and they have medical records to review. The cost of the plan is not a factor in the likelihood of a claim being processed. The Patriot Platinum plan has the same claims department as the Patriot America Plus plan and would be subject to the same certificate wording. The plans we recommend are the plans we feel would be the best fit but you are free to choose any plan that we offer.
