Question:

Hello,My mother (71 years old) wants to travel to the US from Greece on 12/10 but she had an ischemic stroke back in June 2021 and she's now fully recovered from it. We're worried she might have another incident similar to this one while she's in the US. Is that considered an acute onset of pre-existing condition? Would this be covered by an insurance plan? If so, what paperwork would it possibly be needed to be submitted from Greece before we actually buy an insurance plan?Thank you,

Answer:

This situation would be determined by the claims department based on the attending physician notes and lab report from the time of service. It would be important to familiarize yourself with the certificate wording of the policy you are wanting. Make certain of the plans benefits and confirm she would qualify for the acute onset benefit at her age. Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer of yes or no with regard to existing conditions and the reoccurrence thereof, as such things will not be determined until the time of service.
