In January 2017, I finally received my green card. This month, I got divorced from my wife (also a green card holder) and will lose my health insurance I had through her job at the end of June. I am self-employed. I am going back to my own country now, but will be back in mid-September 2017. I want to make sure that I can purchase health insurance to fulfill the Obamacare requirements, but I am not eligible for the CT marketplace, as I am a new green card holder. Are there any options for me ? Will I be able to purchase an Inbound immigrant insurance on this website in my situation when I am returning in September? If so, will that fulfill the Obamacare requirements? I would appreciate your advice.
The plans that we offer in the New Immigrant section do not meet the ACA requirements. There will be a few plans that you can purchase but they will be available only until you are eligible to purchase a long term plan. These are short term plans that will cover new illnesses or Injuries that occur after the effective date. They do not cover pre-existing conditions so they do not meet the ACA requirements.
There is one plan in the short term section, National General that you can purchase for 3 months at a time. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.
