International Student Insurance

Question:

1) Both my wife and I are studying at the same university under the same program. (Both of us have F1 visas) Should we sign up for insurance separately? Or should I sign up and include a spouse? 2) In the Patriot America Plus program, I read that the insurance can be extended to a max of 24 months. However we are planning to study for a total of 3 years. Is this a problem if we want this coverage for our full 3 years? Can we just sign up for the same insurance program again after 2 years? 3) Just to be clear, Patriot America Plus program says "To policy maximum" for the "Student Health Center" So does this mean we can go to the Student Health Center at our university and everything is covered by our this insurance and we don't have to pay any money out of pocket? Thanks for all your help!

Answer:

We would be glad to answer your questions.

1.You could do it either way, as it would not make any difference in premium or benefits. However, we would normally recommend individual plans.

2.The plan can only be extended up to 24 months, so if you need further coverage you would repurchase a new policy.  Keep in mind that anything that has happened during the first policy would be deemed pre-existing on the new plan as you would be starting over.

3.Coverage to the policy maximum means that for covered expenses, you would be covered up to the chosen policy's maximum.

The plan will cover for new illnesses and new injuries that occur or manifest after the effective date. They do not cover things that are preventative, routine, or pre-existing. This plan does include Acute onset benefits of pre existing conditions and I have attached the information link below to explain that benefit option:

Acute Onset FAQ

The plans includes benefits for Covid-19 as well.  The plans that offer benefits for Covid-19 will do so as long as it is contracted after the effective date. Then it will cover any medically necessary treatment up to the plan's benefit levels. It will not cover elective testing.
