Offering travel Insurance to Canadians? Hi there, I'm wondering whether you can suggest a solution for the following scenario, and if any products you offer might work for us: We are a Canadian couple (in our 30s) who travel extensively for business. We are investigating opportunities that would see us traveling for more than 6 months of a calendar year, but Canadian residents lose their provincial health care if they are out of their home province for more than half the year. (And, since we do have national health care in Canada, there are no options for buying private domestic health insurance here; it is only possible to supplement the government coverage they expect you to already have.) Not only that, but *all* travel insurance you can purchase in Canada requires that you be covered under a provincial health plan. So if we travel for more than 6 months of the year, we not only lose our health care coverage at home, but we lose the opportunity to purchase additional travel insurance from our normal Canadian insurance providers. If we were only going to be in one or two other countries, it would be simple to look at visitor's insurance offered by those countries. However, the nature of our travel has us moving around every week or two from country to country. It's mostly European travel, but other continents are also possible. This would mean 3 - 5 different short ( 3 - 14 day) visitor's insurance policies from different countries every month for several months. We would obviously prefer to find a single solution that would cover us for a period of 6 - 8 months or so, wherever we travel, although we realize this might not be possible. We can receive domestic coverage when we're in Canada by applying for "Visitor to Canada" coverage from domestic insurance companies if we return to Canada from a long absence while we are waiting to fulfill the residency requirements to re-qualify for provincial health care. So, we are not concerned about coverage while in Canada. But, we are still trying to find a single travel insurance option while out of the country (since no Canadian insurance company will issue travel insurance if you don't have provincial coverage). Do you have any suggestions for a single international travel plan that might fit this situation? Is our best bet simply to seek out visitor's insurance from each country we visit? Kind thanks for your assistance.
We have a couple of options for you. If you go to our website at /expatriate-health-insurance/ . This link is for our ex-patriots plans. They are a more permenant solution for you guys. Click on the brochures to see the coverages and if you need further assisatance please contact us.
Thank you! They do seem to be what we were looking for. Now we can evaluate our travel options, the cost/benefit etc., properly and decide whether traveling more than 6 months a year does make sense for us. Thanks again for such a quick and helpful answer. If we find ourselves making that decision, we will absolutely look to you for your services. :)
Expatriate plan you can't stay in USA more than 6m in a yr.
Thank you, that's not a concern. We are Canadian residents and travel mostly to Europe, very occasionally to the US. If we are in Canada for longer than six months, we have domestic options for insurance. The ExPat. plan would only be of interest to us if we were outside of Canada for more than 6 months, and very little of that would be in the U.S.
This restriction is only for USA.
