The Nova State University University School (NSU University School), located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was established in 1971. It’s a college preparatory school that serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. It was founded by Marilyn M. Segal, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist, early childhood education researcher, and then-graduate student at Nova University. She initiated a “Head Start” program housed out of her family’s synagogue, Temple Beth El. After conferring with the president of Nova University, the program moved to Nova University’s campus and was renamed the NSU University School.
Today, the NSU University School enrolls about 1,900 students and counting each year. The school’s colors are Mako Blue, silver, and white, and its athletic nickname is the sharks.
The University School consists of four divisions: Early Childhood (junior kindergarten and kindergarten), the Lower School (grades 1–5), the Middle School (grades 6–8), and the Upper School (grades 9–12).
