The North Carolina General Assembly founded it in 1891 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race. Exchange Visitors

J-1 exchange visitor (short-term scholars, research scholars, professors, and specialists) and their J-2 dependents are required to have health insurance that meets the U.S. Department of State minimum requirements and that lasts the full duration of the program.

International Students

F-1, J-1, and all other international students are required to purchase the school’s insurance plan for the duration of the program. J-1 international students who get adequate health insurance through their international sponsor must submit proof of insurance to the ISSO every year. There are no other exemptions or exceptions for enrollment into the school’s plan. The charge is automatically included in the student’s tuition bill each semester.

Accompanying Dependents

International student dependents, including F-2s and J-2s, are not offered plans through the school.
