Exchange Visitors

J-1 Exchange Visitors are required to have health insurance that meets the U.S. Department of State minimum standards and that lasts the full duration of their time in the U.S. The New Jersey City University website makes no mention of specific requirements for J-2 dependents; they may select any plan that meets the U.S. Department of State minimum standards.

International Students

All F-1 and J-1 international students are required to purchase the NJCU health insurance plan for their duration of study at the university. They may waive this plan with proof of purchase of another plan that meets the U.S. Department of State minimum requirements. There is no mention of specific requirements for F-2 dependents. They may purchase any plan.
