Mesa has a violent crime rate of less than four per 1,000 residents, ranking Mesa among the 20 safest cities of Arizona. As an international student, it is a safe location in which to live and study.

For international students from different climates, one of primary health risks of studying at Mesa Community College will be the heat. The city of Mesa is quite warm year-round, with high temperatures that regularly exceed 85°F (29°C) from April through October. Though you can of course take refuge indoors, make a point to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exposure during the hottest parts of the day.

The surrounding desert landscape is fascinating to explore, but be sure to take precautions, as things like cacti can cause puncture wounds. Caution must also be taken to avoid accidentally stepping on a venomous snake, scorpion, or spider.
