The UAF-Kuskokwim Campus is a public four-year college located in Bethel, Alaska. The area is as large as the state of Illinois.
Kuskokwim Campus is the largest rural campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) System. The location of the Kuskokwim Campus is in an extended community of over 46 Alaskan native villages.
Kuskokwim Campus is also the branch campus of the College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD).
The area is home to the Yup'ik and Cup'ik Inuit villages of 56 tribes. The 57,000 square miles of these Alaskan villages do not have roadways connected to the outside world. You can opt for academic or vocational community interest courses here. The university also offers courses for associate, baccalaureate and master's degrees.
Kuskokwim Campus integrates traditional Yup'ik values into its Western education system.
The university offers many associate degrees, bachelor degrees and master's degrees. There are occupational endorsements and certificate courses available. There is also an option for distance learning offered through other UAF schools.
You can enroll in credit courses and non-credit courses. All community programs have a partnership with people and organizations.
Kuskokwim Campus is closely associated with its parent university in Fairbanks. You have the option of transferring to other campuses in the UAF system. Kuskokwim Campus has an active student government that partakes in active problem-solving.
This is a great place for learning in a traditional setting for community, professional, and cultural leaders. The campus staff and faculty advisors can further help you with admission procedures.
Bethel is a quaint town in the fascinating state of Alaska. As a student living here, you will find the town a great location for exploring the unsurpassed natural beauty of the state.
Go for long drives through the undulating snowy plains, for a hike on a forest trail, or on a camping trip with your friends in the middle of the woods. There is plenty to quench your thirst for adventure here.
Of course, be careful while participating in such adventurous activities. Always prioritize health and safety over everything. Keep an eye out for bad weather, snow-ins and wildlife activity when you venture out to explore.
It’s impossible to plan for an illness or injury. The remote location and near-artic temperatures in Bethel can put you at greater risk of medical issues. However, even if you primarily study indoors and don’t take part in risky activities, no one is immune from getting sick or hurt unexpectedly.
Healthcare in the U.S. is very expensive. The charges for even minor medical treatment are not something most people can afford to pay themselves. Because of this, Kuskokwim Campus will ask you to submit proof of having health insurance before attending.
There are a variety of affordable health insurance plans that are tailor-made for students that can help you cover much of your medical expenses while studying abroad. Make shopping for insurance an early part of your plan for studying internationally so you can be prepared.
UAF-Kuskokwim Campus students with F-1 or J-1 status are required to have health insurance throughout their time studying in the U.S.
Insurance should be one of the first things you look for when preparing to study abroad. The university will mandate that you have proper coverage. Without it, you could be faced with unaffordable medical costs if you were to become ill or injured.
Compare different plans that meet your requirements. Take time to examine what’s included with coverage, and what is not. Also, have an understanding of what your out-of-pocket expenses are likely to be if you need treatment. If you have any further questions, please contact our office.
