International Students

Idaho State University does not require international students to have health insurance; however, having medical insurance is strongly encouraged. Given the school does not mandate medical coverage, F-1 students and their accompanying dependents can select any plan shown in the Student (F-1/F-2) section. J-1 international students or their dependents may not have mandates from the school; however, the U.S. Department of State requires J visa holders to obtain and maintain coverage meeting the federal limits for the duration of their stay in the U.S. The plans shown in the Exchange Visitor (J-1/J-2) section do meet these requirements.  

It is recommended to contact the International Programs office to verify the health insurance requirements prior to purchase, as detailed information may only be provided to the attendee. 

Exchange Visitors 

Idaho State University advises that all J visa holders participating in the Exchange Visitor Program are required to acquire health insurance, and provide proof of coverage during check-in at Idaho State University. The insurance must cover them for sickness or accidents for their duration in the United States, and meet the federal limits of coverage issued by the U.S. Department of State.
