Exchange Visitors

All J-1 Scholars and their J-2 dependents are required to have health insurance that meets the minimum standards of the U.S. Department of State. J-1 employees of the university will be provided with insurance benefits as part of their employment. If they are not employed by the university, they are welcome to enroll in the school’s plan, but it is not mandatory.

International Students

All F-1 and J-1 international students are required to show proof of adequate insurance coverage to the university. If they do not have insurance, they will be automatically enrolled in the school’s insurance plan. They may waive enrollment in the school’s plan if they purchase another plan with comparable coverage that meets the waiver requirements.

There is no information regarding insurance requirements for F-2 dependents. They may purchase any plan. J-2 dependents are required to meet the U.S. Department of State minimum standards.
