General Information

Central Connecticut State University, located in New Britain, Connecticut, was established in 1849. It was the state’s oldest publicly funded university, and it’s the largest in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, which also comprises Eastern, Western, and Southern Connecticut State Universities. CCSU’s colors are blue and white, and its athletic nickname is the blue devils.

On Campus

The school is best known for its business & marketing and social sciences & psychology programs. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has selected CCSU as a Community Engagement University. CCSU partners with local communities to lend resources and expertise to help with the most pressing of local problems.

The vast majority of graduates remain in Connecticut, and the school website calls CCSU “a vital pipeline for an array of professions in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, including engineering, social services, health care, law enforcement, education, business, and industry, among others.”

Notable Alumni

Notable CCSU alumni include former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo; actor Richard Grieco; Miss Connecticuts Erin Brady (2013) and Colleen Ward (2015); and Ebenezer D. Bassett, the first U.S. African-American ambassador, appointed in 1869 by President Ulysses S. Grant.
