International Students

For all F-1 and J-1 international students, ASU Student Business Services (SBS) bills the sponsor for university expenses. Students sponsored by certain organizations will be automatically exempt from the school's insurance plan. The remaining students must have an insurance plan that meets all requirements as noted below two weeks prior to the start date of the semester.

F-1 visa holders, J-1 international visa holders, and all other international students are automatically enrolled into the school's insurance plan. The requirements for this plan include unlimited annual and lifetime maximum benefits; identical (if not longer) duration of coverage; coverage of pre-existing conditions with no waiting period; preventative and medical treatment coverage, both in-patient and outpatient; mental health coverage, both inpatient and outpatient; coverage for medical evacuation of $50,000 and for repatriation of $25,000; and the plan must be an ACA-compliant U.S. plan reviewed by the Arizona Department of Insurance.

Exchange Visitors

Arizona State University Polytechnic Campus has the standard insurance requirements for J-1 Exchange Visitors. All exchange visitors must maintain adequate coverage for the duration of their program for themselves and any of their accompanying J-2 dependents per the U.S. Department of State regulations. J-1 exchange visitors and dependents may additionally be subject to the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Thus, all plans listed are recommended to include a waiting period for pre-existing conditions.
