Question:

Visitors Care coverage questions I am shopping for insurance for my parents who are visiting the US next month. Do I have to purchase insurance for both separately or is there a plan for couple. My dad is 66 years old and my mom is 56 years old.

Answer:

Thank you for your interest in purchasing medical insurance for your parents. Whether you buy insurance together for 2 persons, or whether you buy separately, total price is always the same because coverages are per person and prices are per person as well. When buying together, total price simply adds up. In fact, it is better buy 2 policies, one for each per person, just in case one person leaves early and you want to extend just for one person. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

1. Can I buy for 3 months and then extend. If so, will it be a renewal or a new policy? Is there a renewal fee? 2. If I buy for 6 months and say I don't use it for the last month, then is there a chance that I can get a refund? 3. I want the insurance to start from the 11th of August. However I don't plan to buy it until the end of this month. Will that be too late? In other words how long will it take to process? When will I get the ID card? 4. Will I get two separate ID cards for my mother and father?

1. Yes, you can. It will be renewal. There is $5 renewal fee. 2. Visitors Care: As long as you don't have any claims, you will get the refund for pro-rated duration minus $25 cancellation fee. Inbound USA: As long as you don't have any claims, you will get the refund for pro-rated duration minus $50 cancellation fee. 3. Insurance can start as early as the next day or any future date you specify. As soon as you make the purchase, you get virtual id card in the email. Actual id cards will be mailed to by next business day. 4. Yes. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

I have one more question. My parents will stay for 5 months and 20 days. So can I buy insurance for just those 20 days or will that be calculated as an entire month.

You can buy for 5 months 20 days and you will be charged exactly for that duration.

This is just a continuation of the emails with questions regarding insurance for my parents who will be visiting the US. 1. My father is 66 years old and the Visitors care application asks for a copy of his visa which I don't have. I cannot apply for a waiver because he has no insurance back in India. What do I do in this situtaion? 2. Also, you had mentioned in your previous email that in visitor's care I have to pay the deductible once per policy period. However I did not see that information on the webpage. Why? 3. I also have a question about precertification. Say there is a minor illness like fever, should I call before the doctors visit. In other words can you explain in detail how this precertification works in non-emergency and emergency situations.

1. You don't have to provide any visa copy if you are applying online at /visitors-care-insurance/ That requirement is only for paper application. 2. Yes, it is mentioned. Please visit /visitors-care/visitor-medical-insurance/ Go to section for 'Medical Benefits'. Let's say you are looking at Plan B- $50,000. Just below the table, there is one line that mentions that. 3. You need pre-certification for things like hospitalization, surgery, major treatment, CT scan etc. You don't need for fever, doctor's visit etc. If you are not sure for something of middle complexity, it would be best to call the phone on the insurance card and ask.

How many incidents are allowed or applicable in one policy period which allows payment of deductible only once??? In other words what is the definition of an incident in Visitors care?

There is no limit on how many incidents are you allowed. Incident means either sickness or an accident.
