Question:

MY FATHER HAD AN HEART SURGERY AND PLACED A STENT FEW YEARS BACK- HE IS FINE AND WENT FOR A MEDICAL CHECKUP BEFORE TRAVEL. NOW IF HE TRAVELS TO USA AND IF WE PURCHASE A COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE - DOES HOSPITALIZATION OR ANY URGENT OR EMERGENCY CARE VISIT RELATED TO HEART ISSUES OR ANY OTHER REGULAR CHECKUP IF HE HAS A DISCOMFORT IN BREATHING. DOES IT COVERED UNDER A TRAVEL OR VISITOR INSURANCE IN USA OR IT GOES TO A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION AND INSURANCE DOESNT COVER THIS COST.

Answer:

A pre-existing condition is generally defined as any condition whether known or unknown that either exist in the body or occurs prior to the policy effective date. Many visitors insurance plans will have a lookback period of either 2 or 3 years. So if any condition existed in the body or occurred during the look back period it is defined as a pre-existing condition.

Visitors Insurance plans are primarily designed to cover someone for new illnesses, injuries or accidents that either exist in the body or occur after the effective date. Many plans will include coverage for what is called an acute onset of pre-existing condition, and there is one plan called Visitors Protect that will include some coverage for pre-existing conditions.

At the time of the incident, the claims department will make the determination on whether or not a condition is considered new, an acute onset, or pre-existing existing based on the medical records and attending physicians statement (doctors notes).
