Expatriate Health Insurance

Question:

Global Medical Insurance My father travels to the US and rents a property in Tucson for 4-6 weeks per year. Unfortunately his annual travel insurance coverage in Australia have recently alterred their conditions and have decided not to renew his coverage for a pre-existing medical condition - heart disease. I have noticed that all travel insurance on your site states that they wont cover any pre-existing conditions. However, I also noticed that Global Medical Insurance does cover for pre-existing if you take out Platinum coverage. Did I read this correctly? Also, as this is quite an expensive annual coverage for something that is only required for 4-6 weeks per year, is there ways of short-term coverage on this? Or alternatively, probably against the rules, however can the policy be taken out under the monthly plan and then cancelled after 2 months? I really hope you can give me some favorable responses as my father is travelling your way in the next 2 days and no doubt would like to well into the future. His history is that he had a stent installed 10 years ago for angina. His last episode of angina was over 2.5 years ago, symptom free since then with his GP signing off on him being fit to travel with no expectations of concerns.

Answer:

You can look at GMI Platinum at /expatriate-health-insurance/ It is not meant to be 2 months coverage. It is annually renewable major medical plan. It covers pre-existing conditions just like any other condition, if disclosed on application and not excluded/restricted by rider. But I have never seen anything not excluded/restricted by rider. For short term travel, I recommend you look at /atlasamerica-insurance/ It provides the coverage for $15,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions. For new conditions, you can choose from $50,000 to $1,000,000. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
