Enhanced Diplomat International Insurance: What’s New?
Posted: 08/05/20261,096 Views

Diplomat International has long provided travel medical coverage for U.S. residents taking domestic and international trips. The enhanced plan became available on July 1, 2026, adding more value for travelers considering Diplomat International for the first time and past customers planning another trip.

We’re thrilled to introduce the updated plan and share what has changed.

What has changed with Diplomat International?

The enhanced Diplomat International keeps its core travel health insurance coverage trusted by travelers while introducing several updates.

Now Underwritten by AXIS Insurance Company

Diplomat International is now underwritten by AXIS Insurance Company, rated A “Excellent” by A.M. Best.

When choosing travel medical insurance, you may have specific needs in mind before deciding on a plan. The insurer backing the coverage also deserves attention. An A “Excellent” rating gives added reassurance about the insurer’s financial strength. If a medical emergency interrupts a trip, knowing the plan is backed by a well-rated company can give you greater peace of mind.

Trip Cancellation Coverage

Optional Trip Cancellation coverage is now available with a benefit maximum of up to $5,000. Previously, Diplomat International mainly covered medical and travel-related expenses after the trip began. The new add-on may cover prepaid, nonrefundable costs if an eligible reason forces you to cancel before departure.

The extra coverage may be useful when you have paid in advance for flights, hotels, cruises, tours, or event tickets. The more money committed before the trip, the more you could lose if plans do not go ahead.

Competitive New Rates

With competitive new rates, Diplomat International insurance is worth considering for first-time applicants and past policyholders planning a new trip. Past policyholders can request a fresh quote to see the current rate for their next journey. First-time applicants can review the cost for their trip and compare it with other travel medical insurance plans.

The new rates strengthen the value of Diplomat International as travel insurance for US residents while preserving the established coverage travelers know and trust.

Improved Quote and Enrollment Experience

The improved quote and enrollment experience gives travelers a clearer path through Diplomat International before purchasing coverage.

A clear process matters when travelers need to understand their coverage choices before paying, not after the policy is issued. Easier navigation lowers the risk of overlooking important details when reviewing trip dates, policy maximums, deductibles, and optional coverage.

For U.S. residents comparing domestic or international travel medical insurance, the updated experience keeps the focus on choosing suitable coverage and confirming each detail before enrollment.

Coverage Travelers Still Count On

The enhanced Diplomat International insurance continues to provide the travel medical coverage customers know, while the recent updates expand what the plan offers before and during a trip. U.S. residents may use it for domestic travel or as international travel health insurance when medical care or emergency assistance is needed away from home.

  • Search and Rescue: Coverage of up to $20,000 may apply when an emergency in a remote area requires organized rescue assistance rather than ordinary transportation.
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation: Coverage of up to $500,000 may apply when a serious illness or injury requires transportation to a medical facility equipped to provide suitable care.
  • Repatriation of Remains: Coverage of up to $50,000 may apply toward eligible arrangements to return if a traveler passes away during the trip, reducing the financial burden on loved ones.
  • Global Assistance: Travelers can access support when a medical or travel emergency occurs in an unfamiliar location and local services may be difficult to navigate.
  • Optional Sports or Hazardous Activity coverage: Additional coverage may be selected for certain activities not included under the standard plan.

Coverage Choices for Different Trips

A five-day domestic trip may call for different coverage than several months abroad. Diplomat International offers several choices; travelers can select a level of protection that fits the length and nature of the trip.

  • Policy Maximums: Available amounts start at $50,000 and go up to $500,000, allowing travelers to choose a coverage limit that matches their medical coverage needs without selecting more than the trip requires.
  • Deductibles: Choices start at $0 and go up to $2,500, allowing travelers to balance the amount paid out of pocket with the overall cost of the plan.
  • Trip Length: Coverage is available for trips lasting 5 to 180 days, covering short getaways and longer stays.
  • Medical Exam: No medical exam is required before enrollment. Travelers do not need to arrange a separate health screening before purchasing the plan.

Quote results reflect the information provided about the traveler, the trip, and the requested coverage. Different combinations may produce different Diplomat International quotes, giving travelers a clearer view of how each setup affects the cost before enrollment.
