Visitor Medical Insurance Coverage for Visitors 80 Years Of Age and Older

Visitor Medical Insurance Coverage for Visitors 80 Years Of Age and Older

There are many elderly relatives visiting their family in the U.S. who are 80 years of age or older (80+). As life insurance, health insurance, travel insurance or visitors insurance primarily look at the age of the person to determine the availability of the plans, as well as the premium, there are few choices for 80+ persons compared to much younger persons.

In short, there are a limited number of visitors insurance plans available for 80+ visitors. Some people argue that their relative is quite healthy at that age and therefore, should be given much higher policy maximum or a cheaper rate. However, insurance companies determine benefits and rates based on an average claims experience and not based on one person. In any of the available plans, no medical exam is required and no medical information needs to be provided at the time of purchase.

Often the question remains: Which visitors insurance plan to purchase from the available choices?

Before discussing the visitor medical insurance plans, it is important to first discuss the types of visitors insurance plans:

  • Fixed Coverage: Limited coverage, cheaper plans
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Better coverage, more expensive.

We always recommend to people to purchase the comprehensive coverage plans. The choices are based on what policy maximum you would like. In comprehensive coverage category, you can get a maximum $50,000.

  • Comprehensive Coverage

    • $50,000

      • Safe Travels USA

After deductible, pays 80% to $5,000, then 100% to policy maximum $50,000.

It participates in the First Health PPO network, and is extendable in case the stay is extended and is refundable in case of early departure as long as no claims are on file. Complete Details

      • Safe Travels USA Comprehensive

After deductible has been met it pays 80% of the next $5,000, and then 100% up to the policy maximum.

It participates in the First Health PPO network, it is extendable with a minimum of 5 days initial purchase and is refundable in case of early departure, minus a $25 cancellation fee and so long as no claims have been filed.

This insurance plan provides coverage up to $25,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions. Complete Details

      • International Major Medical Plan

After deductible, pays 100% to policy maximum $50,000.

It does not participate in PPO network, it is not extendable and is not refundable in case of early departure. And the minimum deductible available is $2,500. Not available in all states and paper application along with notarized affidavit is required in few states.

However, in addition to visitors to USA, new immigrants can also purchase this insurance. Complete Details

    • $10,000 to $20,000

In this policy maximum range, there are many different insurance plans available. You can get instant quotes, compare and make instant purchase online.

Particularly noteworthy plan is Patriot GoTravel America insurance which covers up $2,500 in sudden and unexpected recurrence of pre-existing conditions.

  • Fixed Coverage

    • $100,000

      • Inbound Guest

Only fixed coverage plan that provides a $100,000 policy maximum. As the plan pays a fixed amount for each procedure and you pay the difference, we prefer a $50,000 comprehensive coverage over $100,000 fixed coverage. Complete Details

    • $40,000 to $60,000

      • Inbound Guest described above provides and $40,000 and $60,000 policy maximums.
      • Both Inbound USA and Inbound Immigrant plans provide $50,000. While Inbound USA is only for visitors, Inbound Immigrant is both for visitors and for new immigrants. For 80+, Inbound Immigrant happens to be cheaper while it provides higher benefits. Therefore, it is certainly preferable to purchase Inbound Immigrant over Inbound USA for 80+ age group.
    • $50,000

      • Safe Travels for Visitors to the USA - Diamond

This plan offers a $50,000 policy maximum until a persons 90th birthday.

It participates in the First Health PPO network, it is extendable with a minimum of 5 days initial purchase and is refundable in case of early departure, minus a $25 cancellation fee and so long as no claims have been filed.

This insurance plan provides coverage up to $25,000 for acute onset of pre-existing conditions. Complete Details
