Wabash College International Student Insurance

Wabash College, located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, is a private, men’s liberal arts college established in 1832. It began as “The Wabash Teachers Seminary and Manual Labor College” but gained its present name by 1851. Wabash was founded first as a classical and English high school to meet the educational needs of the area’s growing population, with the eventual goal of becoming a college as needed. Today, Wabash enrolls almost 900 students and counting each year. The school color is scarlet, and its athletic nickname is the Little Giants.

Academic Offerings

Wabash offers 25 academic majors and more than 30 minors across its three academic divisions: Division I (natural sciences), Division II (humanities and arts), and Division III (social sciences). The capstone of the academic program is the comprehensive exam, which consists of two days of written exams and one day of oral exams.

Wabash coordinates with other schools like Purdue University, Columbia University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business to offer pipeline and dual-degree programs.

On Campus

Noteworthy campus attractions include the home of Caleb Mills, the first Wabash faculty member, which was built in 1836 and hosts various college functions. The Fine Arts Center houses art galleries, studios, a 275-seat concert hall, and a 360-seat theater. Lilly Library holds more than 425,000 books and periodicals, as well as subscriptions to more than 5,000 current titles and a medica collection of more than 11,000 recordings, CDs, videos, and more. Finally, the Robert T. Ramsay, Jr. Archival Center houses the extensive collection of the college’s records, from yearbooks to student publications to fraternity files to special collections.

A unique campus tradition is the ringing of Caleb Mills’ bell. The bell sounds twice each academic year: once in the fall to “ring in” the new class of freshmen, and once each spring to “ring out” the graduating seniors.

Notable Alumni

Notable Wabash College alumni include political theorist George J. Graham, Jr.; Robert Allen, former CEO of AT&T; Academy Award-winning actor Dean Jagger; news anchor Frank Reynolds; novelist Lawrence Sanders; and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Byron Price.
