St. Olaf College International Students Insurance

General Information

Norwegian Lutheran immigrants established St. Olaf College in 1874. It is a liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The campus is located in an area spanning 300 acres and houses 16 academic and administrative buildings. The campus runs on 100% green electric power – courtesy of the in-campus solar panels and wind turbines. The campus is located in the Minneapolis Metropolitan area, and is approximately 45 miles south of downtown Minneapolis.

St. Olaf College offers 44 majors for the Bachelor of Arts degree. It also has five programs for Bachelor of Music students and 19 concentration areas. The teacher-to-student ratio is a healthy 1:12 and the college has always encouraged an atmosphere of learning that is deeply entrenched in Lutheran traditions. The students, numbering more than 3,000, excel in liberal arts programs here amidst a global community that exposes them to the best of a multicultural atmosphere.

  • Bachelor of Arts in History
  • Bachelor of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies

The college provides concentrations in Educational Studies, Management Studies, Mathematical Biology, and Statistics and Data Sciences – to name a few. For those looking to obtain a Bachelor of Music degree, there are five options to choose from.

Health Risks for St. Olaf College International Students

Northfield is ranked among the top 20 safest college towns in the US, with a violent crime rate of 0.78 per 1,000 residents. Overall, it is quite a safe place to live and study, though, you should be sure to practice the basic precautions of locking the doors of your residence and vehicle, and not walking alone in unfamiliar areas at night.

The state of Minnesota is prone to certain seasonal weather events. Winters are usually quite cold, and snowstorms can be a regular occurrence. In the spring and summer, severe thunderstorms and flooding can be possible. Keep these points in mind if planning any outdoor activities. It can be a smart idea to purchase a NOAA weather radio to stay informed of any weather alerts.
