Health Risks for Saint Leo University International Students

Saint Leo is a pleasant university town in central Florida. Being in the middle of the countryside, roughly 30 miles outside of the city of Tampa, Saint Leo University has a sprawling campus. The town has a semi-urban setting, which you will find quite charming and comfortable.

Attending school in Florida means weather can be a risk. Florida can be affected by hurricanes and tropical storms during the summer and fall. Though Saint Leo is far enough from the coast to avoid direct effects from these storms, it can still experience high winds, flooding rain, and tornadoes. Stay aware of the tropical weather forecast at all times, and follow the directions of local authorities to keep yourself safe.

Students must also be careful when venturing out to the surrounding preserves and parks. It is easy to become disoriented in the swamps and woods if you are unfamiliar with the area. It is also important to remember that Florida is the natural habitat of American Alligators, which typically reside in the swamps, lakes, and rivers of the region.

Cover Your Risks with Health Insurance for Saint Leo University

As an international student in a foreign country, you must take charge of protecting your finances and securing your well-being from the very beginning. An important part of doing this is purchasing appropriate Saint Leo University international student insurance.

What’s the need for Saint Leo University health insurance for international students?

Picture this: You travel to the U.S. without adequate health insurance and have to deal with a medical emergency, or even a minor health complication. The resulting bill is for more money than you earn in a year, yet you are solely responsible for paying it. How would you handle this situation?

Your best bet is to do everything you can to avoid being put in this situation in the first place. Saint Leo University automatically enrolls all international students taking 12 credit hours per semester or more in its university-sponsored health insurance plan. However, you may be able to waive this coverage, or purchase additional coverage for yourself or your dependents.
