Oklahoma State University - Tulsa International Student Insurance

General Information

Oklahoma State University—Tulsa (OSU-Tulsa), located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a member of the Oklahoma State University system established in 1999. It was previously known as the University Center at Tulsa. OSU-Tulsa is considered an extension of the main OSU campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The urban campus in the downtown area provides students with a variety of internship and volunteer opportunities. OSU-Tulsa enrolls almost 2,300 students each year and counting.

Academic and Research Opportunities

OSU-Tulsa offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and graduate certificates. As a transfer university, it offers only junior- and senior-level courses. Many of its students transfer from the nearby Tulsa Community College. Many of its academic offerings are geared toward adult learners with full-time jobs: Most on-campus classes are offered one night a week and start at 4:30 p.m. or later. There are also a wide variety of online and hybrid class options available.

Like the flagship institution in Stillwater, OSU-Tulsa has a strong research presence. The Helmerich Research Center focuses on four main areas: materials for energy technologies, bio-materials for medical technologies, advanced materials for aerospace, and materials for electronics and control technologies. Other research centers include the Center for Family Resilience, the Center for Poets and Writers, the Center for Public Life, and the Veteran Success Center.

On Campus

Campus amenities include traditional classrooms, distance-learning classrooms, computer labs, and a conference center area. The OSU-Tulsa Library is home to a number of special collections like the Route 66 Collections, the Ruth Sigler Avery Collection, and the Oklahoma Center for Poets & Writers Manuscript Collections.

Oklahoma State University - Tulsa International Student Insurance Requirements

International Students

Medical insurance is required for all OSU-Tulsa international students, including F-1s, J-1s, and their respective F-2 and J-2 dependents. All F-1 and J-1 international students are automatically enrolled in the school's insurance plan. They will be assigned a plan upon arrival on campus. There is no mention of a waiver option. Please contact the OSU International Student Admissions office for further information.

Exchange Visitors

J-1 Exchange Visitors and their dependents must have insurance coverage that lasts the full duration of the program. The plan must meet the minimum insurance requirements as set by the U.S. Department of State. They may purchase any plan that meets these school and federal requirements. They must show proof of adequate coverage within 10 days of arriving on campus.

J-1 Scholars may purchase the OSU Student Insurance Plan from the school's Academic Health Plans. OSU requires that women who are or may become pregnant purchase health insurance with coverage for pregnancy & maternity services that cover both pre-natal and post-natal care. Women who are currently pregnant are not eligible for any plans offered below and should purchase through the university. Women who are not currently pregnant but may become so should consider purchasing a plan that includes maternity coverage and meets the  requirements. Please contact our office or send a waiver form to discuss these options.

Please contact our office for more details. This information may be subject to change based on a waiver form or a compliance form.
