J-1 scholars and their J-2 dependents may purchase any plan that meets the standard requirements of the U.S. Department of State.

International Students and Exchange Visitors

F-1 international students and J-1 exchange students are required to purchase the school’s insurance plan. A waiver is available if the purchase an alternate plan with comparable coverage and that includes coverage for pre-existing conditions and preventative care.

The College of Charleston website does not mention any specific insurance requirements for F-2 dependents. J-2 dependents are required to meet the U.S. Department of Insurance standard requirements.
