As COVID-19 regulations change around the world, it can be confusing as to what requirements still exist, and where. Though more countries are fully reopening their borders each day, there may still be restrictions in place. To assist you in understanding which destinations in and around Europe require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or testing, we provide the following list of current European COVID-19 entry regulations.

Please note, these are only basic explanations of the requirements in place. They are considered accurate upon publication, but are subject to change at any time. It is highly suggested that you visit an official government website for your intended destination country prior to making travel plans. This way, you will have a thorough understanding of current COVID entry restrictions and requirements.

The following nations in and around Europe are fully open with no COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements:

Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany*, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City

*with the exception of travelers from China

The following European nations require visitors to either provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, provide a negative COVID-19 test, or provide evidence that they have fully recovered from COVID-19:

Kosovo, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Portugal, Russia

The following European nation requires unvaccinated travelers to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to departure:

France

The following European nations have specialized entry requirements that vary depending upon the country you are traveling from:

Is Travel Medical Insurance Required for These Countries?

If you are traveling to any of the Schengen nations in Europe and require a Schengen visa, then you are also required to purchase Schengen visa insurance

Though there are many other countries that require travel medical insurance for entry, it is highly recommended that all travelers purchase travel health insurance, regardless of destination. It only takes one illness or injury to result in a massive medical bill. Without travel medical insurance, you would be responsible for paying that entire bill yourself.

As the world continues to open to international travel, you owe it to yourself to stay protected. Know the restrictions and requirements of the country you’re traveling to, and make sure you have proper international insurance coverage before you go.
