Karunesh,

I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties cancelling your insurance.

However, we are not associated with any of the Indian insurance companies and are unable to help you.

I suggest that you either contact the insurance company or the agent you purchased the insurance from.

In future, I recommend that you purchase the insurance from us. We have several excellent international student insurance plans available from U.S. based companies at http://www.insubuy.com/international-student-medical-insurance/

Amit,

We are sorry to hear that you are having problems with your claim being paid by the Indian insurance company.

Please note that we are a U.S. based company and have no relationship or affiliation with any of the India based insurance companies.

Unfortunately, you don't have much recourse in the U.S. against the insurance company located in India.

That is exactly why you should buy the insurance from the U.S. based company. Most likely, you should not run into any problems. But if you do, you have many alternatives to go after them, right here in the U.S.

I strongly suggest that you purchase the visitors insurance from the U.S. based company the next time. We have several plans available at http://www.insubuy.com You can also read the detailed comparison of buying the visitors insurance from U.S. vs India based company at http://www.insubuy.com/guide/visitors-insurance-usa-india-comparison.jsp

If you need any further information about any of the products we offer, please feel free contact us toll-free at (866) INSU-BUY, 7 days a week.

Hi,
Please find below my case details:

1- I purchased the ICICI LOMBARD International Student Health Insurance policy in August 2007.
2- I was hospitalized in Chicago, USA in July 2008.
3- I forwarded all the required documents to ICICI LOMBARD and also provided contact information of the respective people where the claim was supposed to be settled.
4- Somewhere around in the month of December 2008 onwards, I started getting calls from collection agencies in USA to pay the medical bill. I always redirected them to ICICI LOMBARD and ICICI LOMBARD never entertained them. (as per the collection agency's medical client whose bill is pending)
5- As of today, ICICI LOMBARD still hasn't paid an amount of $768. This has been reported to my credit history in USA and since then, my credit is badly affected.
6- If my calculations are correct, its around 2.5 years since they haven't paid the bills and I am emotionally, financially and mentally very much harassed by these people.
7- I again communicated with the ICICI LOMBARD people to pay off the bills about 4 weeks back but still, there is nothing done from their end. I simply receive emails from them saying that my case is on high priority.

PS: The entity 'InternationalSOS' handled the transactions for my claim in the year 2008 on behalf of ICICI and I am still trying to convey them how badly I am affected by this. But still no results.

I have all of the email communications from ICICI LOMBARD about this situation and they have clearly mentioned that they haven't paid the bills. According to them, they were waiting for the original invoice to be sent to them for the past 2.5 years. They never got in touch with me again saying that they haven't received the invoice and so they weren't able to pay the medical agency. Instead, they kept mum about the situation thinking that they will save $768.

I am also in talks with a couple lawyers on filing a case against both ICICI LOMBARD and InternationalSOS in this regards (both in USA and in India). After searching through Google, I saw this dedicated forum for Indian's who would want to file complaints against such big companies.

Kindly help me on exactly what is my situation here and how should I proceed. I really don't care about the compensation part here as I can also donate the complete compensation I receive to any charity or NGO. But I really want them to realize how much I am suffering because of their negligence.

I had taken travel in surance for 180 days to USA at Rs 12000 premium While taking the policy.I was told that I can extend he cover beyond the period at a nominl price and I was shown a table which said aroun Rs 800 for even 15 days .But when I actually asked for extension just for 3 days well before expiry of policy,I was told that the premium is Rs 3100 even for one day.Inspite of my repeated contacts and requests they id not give any positive reply. Finally I had to do the renewal for the policy in the USA itsel, and the premium was just USD 11 ie Rs 500.This is amounting to cheating by Star health

New Delhi India - March 17, 2011 at 11:11:22 AM
HAI,
FIRST OF ALL STRICTLY STRICTLY DONT PURCHASE THE TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY(MY SUGGESTION).
WHEN I STARTED FROM NEW DELHI INDIA I TOOK THE TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM ICICI LOMBARD FOR 500000 (FIVE LAKH DOLLARS) WITH 100 $ DEDUCTABLE AND ONE DAY I WAS ILL AND WENT TO HOSPITAL AND THERE THE DOCTORS PERFORMED MY TESTS AND SUGGESTED THE TREATMENT FOR IT AND NOW THEY ARE NOT PAYING FOR THOSE BILLS AND HOSPITAL IS SENDING ME THOSE BILLS AGAIN AND AGAIN WHICH IS A BIG PROBLEM AND SECONDLY I CALLED THEM TO RENEW MY POLICY (WHICH AS PER ICICI LOMBARD IS ALWYS POSSIBLE TO RENEW) THEY QUOTED THE PRICE, TOOK THE MONEY, AND AFTER FEW DAYS THEY SAID THAT THEY CANNOT RENEW THE POLICY BECAUSE I HAD SEEN THE DOCTOR AND THEY HAD CLAIMED THE MONEY FOR MY TESTS AND EVERYTHING FROM ICICI LOMBARD/ UNITED HEALTH CARE IN USA.
THIS IS REALLY A B'SHT AS THEY CHEATED ME AS I AM HERE WITH A TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM THEM AND AT USA I CANNOT GET THE NEW TRAVEL INSURANCE AS THE NEW COMPANY WILL NOT COVER MY PROBLEM WHICH HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED ONCE, AS THEY NEVER COVER PRE EXISTING DISEASE AND NOW I DONT KNOW WHAT SHOULD I DO WITHOUT THE HEALTH INSURANCE.
BUT BEFORE PURCHASING TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM ICICI LOMBARD THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT THEY NEVER EXTEND THE POLICIES IF SOME BODY GOES TO SEE THE DOCTOR AND THE MEDICAL PEOPLE CLAIMS THE MONEY FOR THE TRATMENT FROM ICICI LOMBARD AND SECONDLY THEY TOOK THE MONEY FROM ME FOR THE EXTENSION OF MY POLICY AND AFTER TAKING THE MONEY THEY REFUSED TO EXTEND THE POLICY (MY MONEY IS STILL WITH ICICI LOMBARD) AND IF THESE COMPANIES DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO PAY THE BILLS OF THE MEDICAL PROBLEMS OF THEIR CUSTOMERS WHY THEY DO SUCH A BIG POLICIES FOR 5 LAC DOLLARS EQUALS TO 2.5 CRORES OF INDIAN RUPEES. BUT IT IS REALLY BAD AS THEY KNOW THAT THEIR CUSTOMER IS IN MEDICAL PROBLEM AND HE WILL AGAIN SEE THE DOCTOR AND THE DOCTOR WILL AGAIN CLAIM THE MONEY FROM THEM SO THEY FEEL BETTER NOT TO GIVE EXTENSION TO THOSE CUSTOMERS WHO CAN SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT.
THE REP'S OF INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO TOLD ME TO GIVE THEM IN WRITTEN THAT I WILL NOT SEE THE DOCTORS AGAIN AND THEN THEY WILL RENEW MY INSURANCE.

Worst Possible Customer Service
ICICI Travel Insurance was one of the worst mistakes we have ever made.
Travel Insurance in upwards of $1,000 was purchased for parent’s trip from India to US.
The travel airline delayed the flight and delayed baggage on the trip over. I filed all claims for these covered expenses. Claims that total just a few hundred dollars. They were filed within 1 month. The emails were never received with the documents. I was told over the phone to send them in to the physical address. I packaged all paperwork, baggage tags, airline letter, passport information, etc and sent it all in. 1 month later I called them, they claimed they never received it. I emailed all paperwork in once again, which cannot be 1 email, it took over 6 emails to send in all paperwork due to small inbox capacity. They still never received it. I threatened to cancel the credit card payment. Suddenly they found the paperwork and were reviewing. Weeks pass, I contact them again on the situation. They say I need to submit more paperwork. The answer to all their questions were in the original documentations, which I pointed out and clarified to them. This went on many more weeks, I asked to cancel the insurance and give me a refund. No reply. I contacted the credit card company and asked them to look into the matter. They first sided with me, then after 3 months, ended up siding with them since it is a legitimate contract. However, I don’t understand since they have not fulfilled anything from their side! I never filed claims for medical expenses incurred nor for a delayed flight and delayed baggage on the return trip. This is a terrible company, with terrible customer service who just want your money with no regards to ever fulfill any claims or any checks. Their website claims that checks are sent within 7 days. I am well over 7 months.

Travel Insurance process is a mess I bought Icici lombord travel insurance for my mom while she was visiting states. I paid about 25k for prem which covers 6 months of her travel period. I was told that any cash less claim approvals will be done by 24 to 48 hours and they have a united healthcare group policy in the states that cover icici lombord customers Here is the messy part My mom got injury and she had to take treatment, we tried prescription medicine and x-ray now doctor want us to get MRI scan, I approached icici to get an approval. Every time I call them I get diff info from diff people, after a week I was asked to fill up a form and send some documents to start he process. I sent all of them on they same day . Gave them india doctor details to make sure that it's not a pre existing condition , and treating doctor details for any enquiries..it's been more than 2 weeks now, no progress. Worst part is when doctor off call then united health care guys with the policy no provides by icici, they r saying that they don't have info about the patient. I have been literally calling icici every night ( they work in india timings)and told them That UHC does not recognize my mom name. everybody that I talked to so far says that it will be done in24 hours.nothing happens so far Icici is royally cheating the customers. I can't even escalate this, the only sour e that have is to call their toll free number, but they always tell the same thing and they can't do anything about it apart from making a note of it.

If there is any documentation missing from my end which may delay the process I agree, but UHC does not even have my mom name in their system.

Its like we just have to pay the prem, but when we r in need they will not even consider ur call seriously

Want to sue these guys, but not sure how to proceed.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
