Q:Firstly, I would like to thank you for providing detailed and in-depth information on your website regarding visitors insurance. On to my question, I am planning to get a comprehensive insurance for my parents who are visiting me from India for 2 weeks. If treatment costs are more than the policy maximum who do the hospital/insurance company bill for the difference? Is it me who purchased the insurance for them or will it be my parents? (the persons covered by the insurance). If it is my parents, once they go back to India, how will the insurance company go after them?

A:
When you go to a hospital they will have you fill out forms and they may ask you to list someone as a responsible party since your parents are visitors. That will be up to the hospital. There are multiple different scenarios so there is no way to say what would happen. We have also heard of individuals that were denied entry into the US because they had unpaid hospital bills from a previous visit. The insurance company does not collect on unpaid medical bills. The actual provider collects unpaid bills and how they do that will depend on their own internal procedures.

As we need initial coverage for 2 years to get a longer valid J1 visa, please advise plans where we can get a direct 2 year valid insurance.

A:
Once you have purchased for the first year then the plan is renewable. The next day you will be able to extend for the next year giving you a total of two years. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.
