Q:I am considering to buy Atlas MedEvac Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance as a J1 visa requiremen but I wanted to make sure that it meets the a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness requirement as well as the emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains requirements.

A:
This plan will not meet all J1 requirements by itself. Our J1 plans can be found here that include all standard required benefits: /j1-visa-health-insurance/ The Med Evac plan is meant to supplement for example insurance through a University as those plans do not include medical evacuation and repatriation benefits. If your sponsor requires additional requirements beyond the standard requirements, you can email those to us to review. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q:I'm in the process of hiring a insurance required for the J1 visa (and J2 for my wife). My concern is about the dates. The Institution hiring me does include a medical insurance starting from the following month after my engagement so I only need the medical benefits for one month for my and my wife. The problem is that I need to hire now the Insurance even though I still don't know when the travel will be effective since that will depend on the visa processing. The question is In case I purchase the insurance now, can I latter change the staring date of the coverage? Is there any fee associated with this?

A:
We would be glad to assist. Before the effective date of a policy most plans will allow for coverage date changes including the start date of the plan. There are not any fees for submitting these types of requests. However, once a policy is active, you would not be able to change the start date of the policy. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
