Q:My sister who is an American citizen but who has lived in Rome for 30 years (with legal residence--she was married to an Italian) plans on visiting in May and staying one month. This is her first visit during Covid. I have a few questions: 1) will she be able to get tested at O'Hare once she lands; 2) she does not have American insurance and therefore, can she pay for the test with a credit card--how much is it; and 3) what would be the best short term coverage for her while she stays for one month. In the past, she would visit without insurance coverage but now, with Covid, in the event that she contracted the virus, we want her to be fully covered.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Your sister may purchase the Patriot America Plus plan for her visit in the United States. The plan is designed, like all visitor insurance plans, to cover the new illnesses and injuries that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. Although COVID-19 would be treated the same as any other eligible expense in this plan should it manifest during the coverage period, with regards to testing, the plan will allow coverage only if it is of medical necessity. This would mean it would have to be due to signs or symptoms and under a physician recommendation. Elective testing for travel purposes would be excluded from the coverage. All visitor plans on the market exclude pre-existing conditions, preventative and routine care. You may also read more about the coverage available from the links below. Should you have additional questions please let us know and we will gladly assist. We are available every day of the week from 8 AM to 9 PM Central Standard Time at +1 (866) 467-8289.

Q:Hi! I entered the US 3 years ago as a Student, i.e. on a student visa, and am in the process of changing my status and getting a green card. What plans are eligible to me?

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. If you are eligible for a domestic plan through an employer or school, we would recommend purchasing that as it will offer you the most coverage available to you. Should you be unable to purchase a domestic plan, there are a few options which could be available for you. Keep in mind these plans are designed to cover the new illnesses and injuries that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. They will exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions, preventative and routine care. Please view the option in the New Immigrant section of our website and you may also look into the Short Term Medical section of our website. Should you need further assistance you may call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.

Q:Hi. I'm planning a trip to panama from New Jersey for one week and I'm looking into medical insurance. If the trip is for one week, but if as a result of an injury am unable to leave, does the medical insurance cover me until I leave? Will I have the option to extend it if I needed to? Also which plan do you suggest?

If you have to stay beyond the request duration you can extend the policy as needed before the plan expires. If you have any additional questions please contact our office.
